History of Library: One of the important aims and objectives of Ghalib Institute, Aiwan-e-Ghalib was the establishment of a research library. A library within the Ghalib Institute’s campus was established in the year 1971, named on fifth President of India (1974-1977) as “FAKHRUDDIN ALI AHMED RESEARCH LIBRARY”. With the addition of books and also in the case of scholars the library was shifted to a large place on the first floor of the Ghalib Institute, is building which is equipped with modern facilities. The library has a special collection of Classical Literary Books, Rare Manuscripts and Documents about Ghalib and his an era: and general books for Urdu and Persian language and literature, Research and Academics, including some important rare and handwritten books. The Library has also important Manuscripts also.  

 

The library has gifted many fine books about Ghalib from Pakistan; a collection of important books from the collection of old trustees of Ghalib Institute, late Syed Muzaffar Husain Burney, Prof. Nazir Ahmed, Syeda Hamid Sultan Ahmed and recently Justice Badar Durrez Ahmed gifted a large number of the document. The library has other collections also like Kalidas Gupta Raza Collection, The Holy Qur’an Collection, Qazi Abdul Wadood Collection, Begum Abida Ahmad Collection, Professor Nazeer Ahmad Collection and Saeed Khan Collection. It continues right now. The Library has old and most important journals collection like Nigar, Nuqoosh etc.

The library continues to receive important magazines and journals not only from India but also. The Library continues to receive the prestigious refereed journals ‘Makhzan’ from ‘Qaid-e-Azam Library’, Lahore, Pakistan. Another famous magazine ‘Qaumi Zaban’ and other magazines are also regularly received along with ‘Takhleeq’. The other popular literary and well-known magazines, few of them are: ‘Tahzibul Akhlaq’, Aligarh Muslim University, Aligarh, ‘Urdu Adab’, New Delhi, ‘Fikr-o-Tahqeeq’, New Delhi, ‘Urdu Duniya’, New Delhi, ‘Aiwan-e-Urdu’ Delhi’, ‘Mahnama Aajkal’, New Delhi, ‘Adab-o-Saqafat’, Hyderabad, ‘Rampur Raza Library Journal’ Rampur, ‘Tamseel-e-Nau’, Darbhanga, ‘Mahnama Insha’, Kolkata, ‘Naya Waraq’, literary Magazine, Mumbai, and ‘Span Magazine’ USA Embassy, New Delhi, India Today, The Week, Outlook and Frontline in English Language Magazines, New Delhi are also available in Library.

Fakhruddin Ali Ahmed Research Library is a knowledge centre and it has a very rich collection about Mirza Asadullah Khan Ghalib and his contemporaries, Urdu Classical Literature, Prose and Poetry. Fakhruddin Ali Ahmed Research library is a knowledge hub, especially on Ghalib. Another important thing about the library is that the “Computerized Cataloguing” of books are rapidly moving on. The library has 20733 documents.

Location: Fakhruddin Ali Ahmed Research Library is located in New Delhi, Near Mata Sundri College for Women (University of Delhi). 12 km from Indira Gandhi International Airport Domestic Terminal and 16 km from the International Terminal (T3)It has 10 minutes walking distance from ITO Metro Station as well as 10 minutes walking distance from the Delhi Gate Metro Station. It has also the same distance from the Barah Khamba Metro station. 6 km from Hazrat Nizamuddin Railway Station. 11 km from Anand Vihar Railway Station & Bus Terminal.  11 km from Kashmere Gate ISBT. 3 km from New Delhi Railway Station and 2 km from Old Delhi Railway Station.

Parking for the Visitors is available inside the Ghalib Institute Campus around the Ghalib Auditorium/ Seminar Hall. You can cover the distance of 100 meters from Visitor Parking to Library.
